Far out in the open ocean, everything seems reduced to the essentials: land, water, wind. Nothing more is needed here.
The flat island lies in the Cosmoledo Atoll and belongs to the Outer Islands. Vegetation remains low, and shade is rare. Reefs surround the coast and, together with the lagoon, form a delicate system of shallow waters, channels, and drop-offs. Human presence is almost entirely absent. This is precisely what makes the place ecologically valuable.
Access is strictly regulated. Visits are only permitted as part of organized expeditions. Research, observation, and conservation are paramount. No infrastructure exists. Daily routines are dictated by the tides, weather, and light. The focus is on the interplay between the atoll, reef, and lagoon.
Classification
- Flat, uninhabited island in the Cosmoledo Atoll.
