The location within a closed atoll system completely determines its significance. Size and use are not the primary considerations, but rather the position within a lagoon with clearly defined access points, passages, and islands. It is precisely these kinds of locations that make the structure of the Outer Islands comprehensible.
Classification
It is a very small islet within the lagoon of the Aldabra Atoll. Its position lies within a natural channel, in close proximity to Polymnie and Malabar. Such passages connect the open sea and the lagoon and shape the internal geography of the atoll.
Aldabra is a closed coral atoll with a ring-shaped reef, several main islands, and an extensive, shallow lagoon. Within this lagoon lie numerous small islets, sandbanks, and channels. This structure explains the high ecological diversity and its importance for research.
The protected status is strict. The entire atoll is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Access is heavily regulated and only possible with a permit. There is no tourism. There is no infrastructure, no accommodation, and no freely accessible landing sites.
- Small island point in the Aldabra Lagoon
- Part of a UNESCO-protected atoll
- Geographical proximity to Polymnie and Malabar
- No tourist use
- Access only within the context of research or permits
This location is irrelevant for travel planning. However, it is an important marker for understanding the Outer Islands, helping to spatially classify the atoll structure with its lagoon, passes, and island points.
