It is barely noticeable on maps. Nevertheless, it fulfills a clear function within the structure of a lagoon.

Îlot Dubois is a small, flat islet, typical of the atoll and lagoon systems of the Outer Islands. Such islets are usually located directly on reefs or within protected lagoon areas. Other small islets and reef structures are located nearby, forming a ring of islands. There is no infrastructure, and shore excursions are not possible.

The significance lies in their interplay. Reefs slow the surf. Shallow water collects nutrients. Small islands mark the transitions between lagoon and open sea. It is precisely here that biodiverse zones develop, vital for fish, seabirds, and turtles. References to these features are found primarily in nautical charts, expedition reports, and conservation contexts.

Classification

  • Small uninhabited islet in the vicinity of an atoll or lagoon system.
  • Located near other island points and reef zones of the Outer Islands.
  • Relevant for map reading, reef structure, and shelter areas.

This place is not a destination. It is a structural point. Quiet, functional, and necessary so that the overall picture of the island world remains legible.
