Far out in the south, the scale changes. Land becomes small. Water and horizon take over.

The tiny, uninhabited island lies in the Cosmoledo Atoll of the Outer Islands and is located on the western reef edge. Other low-lying islets and cays of the atoll are nearby, including Wizard Island, Boudeuse Cay, and the Manaha Islands. Together, they form the ring of land and reef that encloses the large lagoon.

Here, everything revolves around structure and movement. Lagoon, reef edge, and tides dictate the rhythm. Shade is scarce. Colors shift from bright turquoise to deep blue depending on the light. It is precisely these conditions that have made the region internationally renowned for diving and fly fishing. Activities are dictated by weather and currents, not by time of day.

Classification

  • Small uninhabited island on the western edge of the Cosmoledo Atoll.
  • It is part of a group of islands including Wizard Island, Boudeuse Cay and the Manaha Islands.
  • A striking example of atoll structure, lagoon, and expeditionary character.

This name stands for vastness and reduction. Little land. Much sea. And a space that only works because it is hardly touched.
