Some names seem unassuming, yet they explain more than many large islands. That is precisely where the value of this place lies.

The small island lies within the Cosmoledo Atoll and belongs to the outer ring of islands that encircles the large lagoon. Nearby are other low-lying islands and cays of the atoll, including Wizard Island, Boudeuse Cay, and the Manaha Islands. Together, they form the boundary between the lagoon and the open ocean. Îlot Lacroix itself is flat, uninhabited, and devoid of infrastructure.

Such island features help us understand the structure of an atoll. Reefs slow the surf. Passages direct currents. Lagoons collect nutrients. It is precisely here that the conditions for fish-rich waters and stable ecosystems are created. References are found primarily in maps, expedition reports, and conservation contexts. Visits are rare and strictly regulated.

Classification

  • Small uninhabited islet in the Cosmoledo Atoll.
  • It lies on the atoll's edge near islands like Wizard Island and Boudeuse Cay.
  • Relevant for understanding atolls, maps, and ecological relationships.

This place represents quiet geography. No stage, no program, but a clear function within the atoll's system.
